Book Thoughts

I bought Brenda Cooper's novel The Silver Ship and the Sea in hardcover a while back. I finally sat down to read it, but had to set it aside. I just couldn't get into it.

I'm not sure why. I think part of the problem is that I disagree with Cooper's world-building. She has set up a world where, over a hundred years after settlement, the human presence is still one small village. I'm just not buying that.

I'm also reading Carol Buchanan's self-published book God's Thunderbolt in electronic format. It's interesting, but I'm finding it difficult to follow her point-of-view, which bounces around between characters quite easily. Also, I think she started a little too "in the middle of things." A bit more setup as to how this community (miners in Civil War Montana) came to be would have been helpful.
