My company has a health day every fall, and I get the full blood workup at that event. To my mild surprise, my cholesterol numbers were actually slightly lower than last year's test. That's good, but the bad news is that the total and triglycerides are still over the optimal limits. Having said that, I've determined that my triglyceride problem is an issue with my chair.

Or more accurately, my ass is resident in my chair for too much of the day. Rather than attempt some radical re-do of my schedule, I am going to start by scheduling a daily walk, effective today, and see if that helps. That and cut down on out the damn french fries (which I love) at lunch.

In other news, I talked to the writing group yesterday about my yet-untitled Space Opera. They found it enjoyable, and had some useful comments. The most useful was "keep writing and see what you end up with." So I shall.

My triglycerides plummeted after I gave up caloric sweetened iced tea and sodas. From what I've read, fructose is metabolized in the liver directly into triglycerides, so anything containing high-fructose corn syrup would be good to throw overboard.

This happened without my giving up French fries, or (especially) potato chips. Much depends on the kind of fats they were fried in, though the research there is complex and not as clear as I'd like.

However, it's pretty clear at this point that sugars (and especially fructose) are the real bad guys, and my own experience has borne this out.

I'm very much not into sugar - I drink diet pop, use sweetener, etc. I do have a weakness for cookies, but that's about it.

I really think in my case it's just that I don't exercise enough.
