True Heroes

I got in this discussion about heroism with [livejournal.com profile] frankwu. Frank said something about "pushbutton wars" including the current mess in Iraq. The war in Iraq is many things, but "pushbutton" it ain't.

Then, I stumble upon this post from [livejournal.com profile] bdunbar. It's about a female specialist, driving a recovery truck in Iraq. She's been in 4 IED explosions, sniped at, and wounded. The blogger meets her when she's being medivac'ed for cancer. Oh, and she's going through a divorce. Her complaint? She's leaving her unit 3 months early.

Edited 8/29/07: Apparently the story above about specialist Alison K. is largely fabricated. Read here for details.
