I don't usually blog about things at work because that can Get You Into Trouble, but this case is completely innocuous.
I mentioned that last week the Chicago area got hit with a bunch of thunderstorms. Well, the first (and most dangerous) wave rolled through about 3:30 PM - when everybody was at work. Getting good information about where the storms were proved very difficult. Our satellite TV went out, and the Internet-based weather sites were responding slowly.
So, I decided to buy for the bank one of these: a Midlands Weather Radio
. Unlike the older weather radios, you can set this one so it only goes off for alerts in a specific county. It's only $45, and has battery backup capability as well as AM/FM and clock radio alarm.
It's a little late in the year for severe weather in Chicago, but hopefully we're better prepared.
