Writing

As part of my writing group, I finished reading Colleen Kobe's novel last night. It was an interesting read, and I am trying to get my comments organized for next week's meeting. My next assignment is to re-read the 2.0 version of Space Rescue. On a bit of a whim, I poured the manuscript into Lulu and printed out a few trade paperbacks. Originally they were going to be sent to a couple of my relatives for comment, but the first order got sucked up by the writing group.

Including me. My homework assignment is to re-read my own book again. Hopefully, putting it in yet another format and letting it sit for a while will allow me to take one more fresh look at the puppy.

How interesting you mention this. I just said the same thing to my first reader here about an older short of mine. I really believe that reading your own stuff in print can bring out places that need work more than eyeballing it on screen or rough type. It activates a "distant" self editor reading it like this.

Well, I did this once before on this one - I printed out the first draft and put it in a binder. I did discover problems then.
