Two Period Pieces

On the occasion of Sir Sean Connery's passing, I decided that the weekend entertainment package would include a screening of some of his movies. I selected two, The Great Train Robbery, which I had not seen, and Outland, which I had but decades ago. Both proved to be period pieces.

The Great Train Robbery was set in 1855, so I was expecting a period piece. It was ironic to note that in order to get Olde Tyme English exteriors the production had to decamp to Ireland. The movie itself was an entertaining caper.

Outland is set in our future, but the collection of white dudes smoking cigarettes while staring at CRT monitors marked it as a product of the 1980s. Again, though, a very entertaining piece, but a sign that science fiction, written or filmed, may not age very well.
