I think I'm going to have to get in the habit of regular postings, news or not, otherwise I could go a week at a time without saying anything. Fortunately, I do have a couple of comments, some of which are actually more important then the organization of my sock drawer.

As mentioned in a previous post, I'm in the habit of watching the first few minutes of the CBS Early Show. I kinda like learning if the world blew up overnight before I drive to work. Well, for reasons that elude me, the producers at the Early Show decided that the single most important story in the world (a full seven minutes of airtime) was the fact that a horse (Barbaro) died Monday! This is even more inexplicable considering that the secondary lead was proof (if any was needed) that Iran is aiding insurgents in Iraq with money and weapons. I don't know, but it seems to me that an act of war by a sovereign nation is just a little more important then a horse. I'm not one to bash the "mainstream media" but decisions like this reduce everybody's respect in the institution. Lower respect = lower credibility = rise in "alternative" media.

Part of the "men are from Mars, women are from Venus" thing seems to be an inability by some women to appreciate the fine qualities of silence. Exhibit A for the prosecution: I was out eating last night, sitting at the bar in Outback Steakhouse. (It's two blocks from my house.) While I was there, a frail, elderly gentleman (70s) and a 50-ish woman walked in. They sat down behind me, and the woman proceeded to talk the man's ears off.

I could hear the conversation, and it was amazingly trivial. The woman was telling him (in great detail) about the food and alcoholic beverage choices, including asking the bartender for a sample of Midori (something about a watermelon daiquiri(?)). Even the (male) bartender thought she was a pain in the neck (or more accurately, ears.)

I did mention that I'm single, right? Maybe there's a reason :-)
