Sales Update
Feb. 9th, 2007 06:17 pmMy sales report from Lulu is in. Three copies, two via Lulu (a download and a hard copy) and one via Amazon.com. Lulu has also created a bit of a brouhaha by unilaterally changing pricing. Anything bought directly from Lulu.com will now cost the same as if bought from Amazon, which in my case is a $2 price increase. They did this without notice, and in fact people's content was marked as "unavailable" until they approved the new price.
The reason for this was unclear. The stated reason was that "publishers can't sell direct for less then what a bookstore could." Now, Bill Schaffer at Subterranean Press has specials all the time, so this doesn't compute to me.
Second, and in my mind even more irritating, is the fact that Lulu hasn't decided what they are. If they are a "publisher" then they get to set the price, period. If they are a "distributor" and I am the publisher, then I get to set the price. Needless to say, Lulu is getting flamed in their own forums for this manuever, and it's almost enough to make me want to go direct to Ingram.
