The End of a Generation
Feb. 18th, 2007 12:57 pmWhen I self-published The Mars Run, I got a very nice write-up in my local paper. About a week after the article appeared, I got a call at home from Bill Coons. (I'm the only "Gerrib" in the phone book, so no great detective work was required.)
Bill is a WWII veteran and pilot, and spent a good deal of time working with drone aircraft. In an attempt to better train anti-aircraft gunners, a number of these remote-control aircraft were deployed for live-fire exercises. Bill, who like many WWII vets is in frail health, was trying to get his book published while he still could, and so he called me for assistance.
We've had several conversations, and he's finally got it out. The book is called SHOOT Only at the Red Airplane, and I just ordered a copy. I have no idea yet if it is any good (I'll post a review here either way) but I do note that so far he's sold about 250 copies.
In a related note, Brett Wolfson, a co-worker of mine, sent me a link to a short movie. I don't know how he finds all these movies, but the ones he points me to are always good. This little gem, called Reveille, is a touching little video (about 11 minutes long) and well worth a look.
