Catch-up Post
Mar. 11th, 2007 10:18 amSorry I haven't posted recently. I had a case of laziness, which I just got over. Here are updates on a few of my odds and ends.
Lulu, my printing and fulfillment shop, lost a channel war and had to raise their prices. On a whim, I looked at Booksurge, Amazon's entry into the POD market. They have a $99 self-publish special, assuming you provide the PDF file. I also noted that they have a fully-returnable program, which (in theory) would get you into book stores. The price for this is not disclosed, so I asked. Three weeks ago. I finally got a reply in the form of a "Let's get started" questionnaire. The cost is $600 annually. I shall have to consider this.
Before my recent bout with laziness, I did a little research on global warming, specifically Martian and English past climates. I posted my findings here, and emailed them to Jerry Pournelle. He was rather unconvinced, as was
bdunbar. I guess the evidence I saw was ambiguous. One finding, Martian glaciation, doesn't appear significant, and the other, crop patterns in England, does. Such is life. Rarely does a voice boom out from the sky and say "This Is Truth."
I'm planning to catch the new movie 300 tonight. I'll have a review tomorrow.
