My parents made it back to Westville today, despite the winter storm ravaging the Midwest. Us northerners own and know how to operate snow plows and salt trucks, and (mostly) have the sense to drive at an appropriate speed for conditions.

Via [livejournal.com profile] cmpriest, who's in the inaugural issue, I learn of a FREE quarterly PDF magazine called Noctem Aeternus. Latin for "Eternal Night" it's a horror-tinged SF / Fantasy magazine. They apparently have some cash behind them, since they're paying 10 cents a word. The first issue will be hitting my inbox on January 1, so I'll let you know more after I read it.

Christmas shopping is almost done - since my parents wanted to get out on the road early, I was up and hit the mall after they left. I have one more gift card to get, which I might do online, and then it's all she wrote. That seems to be a fitting end to this post, so see you Monday.

ETA: I find from [livejournal.com profile] j_cheney that somebody is creating the "short story gumball machine" so beloved of [livejournal.com profile] jeff_duntemann. It can be found at Anthology Builder. It's in "early beta," but something I shall peruse in more detail.
