I watched the series premier of The Sarah Connor Chronicles last night (sorry, [livejournal.com profile] j_cheney). It was an enjoyable romp, with much guns blazing and stuff blowing up. Summer Glau played a Terminatrix, and did a good job of it, and Lena Headey was a good choice for Sarah. I am curious as to why they bothered to hide the actress's tattoos, since she plays such a rough character.

I don't think it's too much of a spoiler to say that the series starts in 1999, but they've done some things which will make it interesting to see how long this series can run before hitting the brick wall of Terminator 3. Although having said that, at least one of the events of last night's episode puts the events of T3 in doubt. Alas, this is time travel, so anything is possible.

Part two of the premier plays tonight, and thanks to the magic of DVR, I will be able to watch it commercial-free. Good thing - my stuff for Mexico is laid out on the spare bed, and needs to get into a suitcase.

Over at The Yorkshire Ranter, there is a lengthy review and discussion of the book Bad Medicine, which is about how doctors spent several hundred years ignoring the fact that Galenic medicine (bleeding people to cure fevers, etc.) not only didn't work but was actually harmful. The review also points out that microbes were known, and it took in some instances a willful ignorance to discount their power.

I've discussed it before, but sometimes emotional or other irrational factors will cause people and groups to cling to wrong ideas. Go read the whole thing - it's worth it.
