I spent the early AM today shoveling 8 inches of snow from my sidewalks, and will probably have another inch or two when I get back. Not very warm ;-)

Actually, while down in Puerto Vallarta, I read Jared Diamond's Collapse, which documented how a number of civilizations went down the tubes. One of his points was that, on a human scale, even a sudden climate change isn't. You'll have a drought, broken by occasional heavy rains, but over time the total rainfall is declining. This snow may be a case in point.

In other news, my great-uncle Jerry Van Vickle died this morning. He'd been ill for years, and we were truthfully expecting him to not make it this long. I'll miss the guy, but his suffering is over.
