Getting Amazon-ed
Mar. 29th, 2008 03:29 pmAmazon, the 800 pound gorilla of the on-line book selling business, owns a print-on-demand (POD) company called Booksurge.
They are now telling all other POd companies (self-publisher and small presses) that to sell on Amazon, you'll need to use Booksurge. Click here to read the gory details.
I find this irritating on two points. First off is just the general high-handedness of it. Second, from a cost perspective, Booksurge charges higher prices for the same book then Lulu. I priced them out for The Mars Run.
Various POD groups are calling for an Amazon boycott, which I suspect is of questionable effectiveness at best. Unfortunately, I don't know what (if anything) I can do.
