Obama and Wright
Regarding yesterday's flap with Barak Obama and Reverend Wright, I got myself into an argument with the poo-flinging monkeys here. Apparently my feeble intellect (bachelor's and master's from accredited universities) isn't capable of understanding their clear arguments as to why Obama is unfit to be President.
This may be the case. Seriously, I may have "drank the Koolaid" with regard to Obama. At any rate, the not-particularly-liberal Volokh Conspiracy had a nice post about the controversy. The nutshell version is one can have friends who are nuts about one subject, or even several, but 95% normal. When they get on their hobby-horse, you ignore them, vs. angrily denounce them. It also suggests some folks get more nutty as they age.
Miley Cyrus
She's the latest "it girl" for the junior-high set, and seems to have a decent singing voice. She posed for a picture for Vanity Fair which seems to have folks in an uproar. I suppose it's a tad racy for a 15-year-old, but then I have seen 15-year-olds show more skin at prom or on the beach, so I'm missing the controversy here.
Boat Captain's Luncheon
Last week, I attended the Canal Corridor Association's Boat Captain's Award Luncheon. The Association "preserves history, protects nature and open space, and creates destinations where people can learn and have fun in the I&M Canal National Heritage Corridor, from Lake Michigan in Chicago to the Illinois River in LaSalle/Peru." It's a worthy group, and not only is one of the bank's directors affliated with it, but so is a member of my Rotary club.
Speaking of Rotary, I will be attending our district conference in Sheybogan, Wisconsin tomorrow through Sunday, so posting may be light. Or not. If it is, you know why.
