Back from Duckon
Jun. 16th, 2008 09:54 amI survived Duckon a bit tired but otherwise no worse for the wear. I was on two panels. The first one, on "publishing alternatives" was a bit of a bust. We had essentially two self-publishers, myself and and this guy, Travis Clemmons, plus a gent who wrote non-fiction technical stuff. It was just not enough points of view, and really missed the "traditional" side of the house.
My other panel, "World Building - Government" was more of a success. This was in part due to Elizabeth Bear (
matociquala), her designated sidekick Sarah Monette (or maybe Bear was Monette's sidekick - hard to tell), Richard Chwedyk and neo-pro writer (and Aztec expert) Tim Akers.
Richard Chwedyk also ran a short story workshop, which was useful (but added to my "to-be-written" list, damn it) and the Saturday night writer's party was a success. It was nice seeing Jackie Powers actually enjoying the con vs. her usual "run around hair on fire" while running the writer's track. So now I'm back to the grindstone.
