My work laptop is trying to eat its hard drive, so I'll be busy playing PC doc tomorrow. (Yes, the head of the IT department will load his own damn laptop.) So, pretend it's Monday.

The Atlantic magazine had a couple of interesting articles in the online edition. First up was Distracting Miss Daisy, a three-screen article which suggests that one of the reasons the US auto accident rate is higher then the UK rate is due to our drivers being distracted by traffic signage.

Although it makes some interesting points, I'm not buying it. I think that in the UK, getting a driver's license is harder and loosing it is easier. That and the better public transportation system means a lot of marginal drivers aren't on the roads. Marginal drivers need more signage, and cause more accidents.

Then there was this article on the Chevy Volt electric-gas hybrid. As a long-time fan of General Motors, I hope the Volt works. Go read the whole article - it's worth it.

Things accomplished in fiction: Realized that two characters who were related by marriage probably had never met. This was a problem since they interact a lot, forcing a formal introduction and re-write of some scenes.
