Novel Synopsis
Jul. 31st, 2008 09:15 amI mentioned in previous posts that I am trying to sell my new novel Space Rescue to a traditional publisher. Having tried self-publishing and gotten the t-shirt, I can assure you that the editorial and marketing services of even a smallish publisher are significant aids in selling a book.
Part of the sales process for getting a traditional publisher is writing a novel synopsis. This is a no more then three page summary of your novel, with all key plot points included. It's not a "hook" (the part where the agent says "I need to read more") it's a confirmation that the book doesn't go south at some point.
My synopsis is done, but before I send it out, I'd like comments. Obviously you the reader can't tell how accurately it summarizes my work, but what I'm looking for is if you think it's clear, understandable and interesting. So, below the cut, I've posted all three pages. Comments are appreciated, including "this sucks."
