I've been continuing to watch the mess in Georgia. It certainly looks like the Georgian military either has collapsed or will do so soon. What bothers me the most is that apparently lots of Georgians were assuming that the US would jump in and back them up. Since it appears obvious we're not, at least not in any direct way, I sincerely hope that no official promises were made to Georgia. Much though I'm not convinced that these breakaway provinces are worth a single US soldier, our government's word is, or should be, worth a lot.

In lighter news, I'd like to remind my readership that Tobias Buckell's damn fine novel Sly Mongoose is coming out August 19. My official review is here, but the short version is "you can't go wrong with space zombies!"

Finally, in the writing world, ideas are getting firm enough for outlines to two sequels to Space Rescue. One would be set on Saturn's moon Titan. There, a character to be named later would be sent to find and kill The Mad Mullah, who was blowing up shit and killing people. The second would end with a space naval battle around the asteroid 433 Eros. If I'm interpreting this correctly, 433 Eros cycles near both Earth and Mars, and would be a nice spot for a space base to harass shipping going either way.
