Coming Attractions and Random Thoughts

There are many reasons not to vote for John McCain for President. However, people like to vote for somebody, not against the other guy. So, I've decided to make a case for Barack Obama. I'm thinking of a three-parter, with one post for foreign affairs, one for economic policy, and one for general domestic stuff. Unfortunately, since I need to harvest some links in support of this, those postings are still to come.
Random Thought #1
I think I mentioned here that I'm putting my townhouse up for sale, hopefully allowing me to buy a nicer place. In the process, I've had to spend some cash fixing various nitnoid issues. For example, I have a ceiling fan that quit working. Turns out that it's not getting electricity, and the problem is before the wall switch. The handyman also discovered that I've got a circuit breaker that doesn't trip like it should. These discoveries both mean more $$$ from my pocket, although I'd rather find out about the circuit breaker from the handyman then the fire department.
Random Thought #2
My office is in Oak Brook, at the intersection of Butterfield and 22nd Street. Butterfield meets 22nd at about a 45 degree angle with a stoplight, and merges in with 22nd to become one road. I am amazed at how confused people get at that intersection.
Just this morning, one fellow in a Buick was at the stoplight in the leftmost lane, set up for a turn going east. He then decided to back up and jockey over to the far right lane to go west. Despite the sign indicating one merges into a dedicated lane on 22nd, once in the right lane he stopped at the light, causing a dozen cars behind him to stop and honk. These kind of problems are a routine occurrence at this intersection, and I find them amazing. It's really not a complex intersection.
