Via Jackie Powers, I read of an actual in-store deployment of an ATM for books, also known as a print-on-demand (POD) machine. I really do think this technology is the wave of the future, but it's been coming very slowly.
Found by that highly technical search mechanism known as "dinking around," this link on Piracy and the Law. The gist of this post and the book being shilled by the author is that the real Pirates of the Caribbean were put down in part by making it easier to try and convict them in courts. Since these pirates were the terrorists of their day, perhaps the "law enforcement" approach to terrorism and piracy has some merit after all?
