I Need a Vacation
Jun. 27th, 2009 02:41 pmAll work and no play makes Chris a cross boy. So, I spent a little time today figuring out vacation options.
One thought was to upgrade my supporting membership in Anticipation and go catch a Worldcon. There are several problems with that idea. First, the Con would involve at least 4 days off from work, which I just can't justify right now. Second, I'd need to get 6 days at a hotel. Third, I'd have to pay for a flight or burn more time driving.
Then I discovered Confluence. It's your basic Friday night / Saturday / Sunday con, so I could do it with only one day off. (I'm taking the following Monday as a recovery day, but still, 2 is less than 4). Also, John Scalzi is Guest of Honor there. Since I've read his books and whatever, but not met the guy, it sounds like a good opportunity. Lastly, I'm sitting on a free flight voucher from my last vacation, so my travel cost is practically nil (airport and security fees).
Thus, Confluence it is, July 24-26 in lovely Pittsburgh, PA.
