Glad To Be In Rotary
Sep. 4th, 2009 10:12 amLast night I attended a meeting of the Rotary Club of Chicagoland Lithuanians. This club was formed just last year for recent Lithuanian immigrants and 1st generation Lithuanians to get together and meet. I am of Lithuanian ancestry, although as a 3rd-generation American I don't speak Lithuanian. However, since our club helped charter theirs, we have some obligation to help out. Also, I wanted to get on their calendar to talk about our district's HELP program, which provides free medical equipment to needy clinics.
Boy am I glad I went last night! They had a small crowd, due to the upcoming Labor Day holiday, but they meet at Pappadeaux, so the food was always good. In fact, our waitress told us that they had a special on lobsters - two 1 pound critters for our regular price! Everybody ordered lobster, and we cleaned out their tank - one of the members took the last two home for his daughter. (To eat, not as pets.)
In other Rotary news, one of the charities we support, Diveheart, made the local papers for teaching a girl born without arms how to scuba dive.
Now you know why I am glad to be in Rotary.
