Link Salad - Birthday Edition
Sep. 25th, 2009 08:42 amToday's my birthday. I can't (and usually don't) take the day off from work, but that's okay since I'm going on my grand tour of the American southwest starting Monday. At any rate, here's a few links for your entertainment.
Via the always-interesting Making Light, read about Ertugrul Osman, the last heir to the throne of the Ottoman Empire. Apparently he lived for decades in a rent-controlled walk-up apartment in New York city. Despite his residence, he considered himself a citizen of the Ottoman Empire, and traveled on a certificate of his own devising instead of a passport.
Via the blog discussion of Print On Demand I was in over at Scalzi's place, here is some very entertaining caveman science fiction.
Two little gems from
jaylake:
Apparently, the Viking 2 lander missed finding ice on Mars by inches. (Cool picture, by the way.)
Readers of my blog know my interest in biofuels, so here's another link: fuel your car with tuberculosis! Actually, the bacteria in question is a cousin of TB, so it's not that bad.
