Happy Birthday, Dad!

It's my Dad's birthday today. It's also of course the anniversary of Pearl Harbor. My dad was doing whatever three-year-olds did in Central Illinois to mark their birthdays during the attack. Considering that it was the tale end of the Great Depression, probably not much.

Perhaps fittingly, we gave my Dad a surprise birthday party over the weekend. About 70 of his friends and family showed up at the American Legion in Westville. Some of us, like me, snuck in from out of town and hid out.

We achieved complete surprise, although our surprise was greatly enjoyed by the recipient :-)
