Happy Sunday!
Apr. 11th, 2010 04:15 pmAs I've mentioned, my Rotary club has one fundraiser, a charity auction, of which I am in charge of. The auction was held last night and I am pleased to report that, although we don't have exact numbers, we did reasonably well.
We did an experiment this year by moving the auction to a Saturday, hoping to improve turnout. We had significantly less guests then last year, which let to a lot of concern. In the charity auction game, cheeks in seats equals cash. So the fact that we did as well as we did (probably better than last year) really impressed me.
I'm not sure why we did better, in truth. One other thing we did differently is re-arranging the tables for the silent auction, making it easier for people to get to an item. In the silent auction, an item that can't be seen won't get a lot of bids. I think that our change of date may have led to a drop-off of, shall we say, less serious buyers. Folks that just came for a dinner on Friday night stayed home - those that came wanted to buy.
At any rate, the auction is over. Now the planning for next year begins! ;-)
