I had a quiet weekend, in part because I'm going to spend the end of this week at NASFIC in Raleigh, NC. I also got on a role on the re-write of Space Rescue. Having installed a Big Bad (Buffy-speak for increasing the stakes) I've found that it helps my characters commit to action.

Also in writing, I've decided to change the ending, which means two characters who were joined at the hip in the previous draft are now several hundred miles apart. This is forcing a re-write of the climatic shoot-out at the end, but that's all for the good.

Speaking of shoot-outs, I've discovered and been watching the reality-TV shot Top Shot on the History Channel. Now, I know I've bashed reality TV before, but this show is, well, better then the average bear. Primarily, the show is all skills-based.

See, the concept is two teams of competitive shooters, and the teams compete with each other using various weapons. Nobody is using their own guns, and everybody is outside of their comfort zone. Not only that, the eliminations are by skills. The team that looses a challenge votes to send two of their members to a shooting challenge and the loser of that challenge goes home. It's really slick, especially if you are interested in guns. It may be a sign of the apocalypse, but I recommend watching Top Shot.
