Welcome Back to Reality
Nov. 15th, 2010 11:21 amI'm back from Windycon, which was the culmination of a 4-day weekend (Veterans Day plus vacation day). Now I'm back to reality, which means work. Herewith are a few thoughts about Windycon.
1) Not having a room at the con does kind of suck. There are several hour-ish breaks in con activity. Even if it takes 10 minutes to go home and 10 to come back, that's spend 20 driving to take a 40 minute break. (I didn't get a room because I'd just dumped 800 bucks on heating repairs at my house.)
2) My two panels went well, and were well-attended. Actually, the only panel I saw that I was disappointed in was Sunday's "fate of the space program" panel. Granted I wasn't there at the start, but it seemed to degrade into a bash NASA mode.
3) Having to drive home put a smallish crimp in the party activities, but I was able to deal around it.
4) The writers' workshop was fun, even if it was at an uncivilized hour on Sunday. We had four fairly strongvictims new writers. Having four in a three-hour slot I think actually helped by focusing our comments and discussion.
