A Show of Appreciation
Dec. 22nd, 2010 10:01 amMy Rotary club had our family Christmas party last night. As implied by the title, families, including small children, were in attendance. Thus, a costumed Santa makes an appearance, and hands out gifts to the kids (which are provided by the parents). The recipient has to come and sit on Santa's lap to get the gift. Since alcohol is served, and we've been doing this for a number of years, some big kids (AKA, "adult children of Rotarians") get called up.
Since I don't have kids, and a surprising number of our Rotarian children have difficult and ethnic names, I am Santa's "elf" and call out the names of the recipients. Imagine my surprise, then, when I'm handed a package with my name on it. Our current club President decided to thank me for my "service to Rotary." It was a small gift, but in this case, it really was the thought that mattered.
