Link Salad, Now with Added Pirates!
Jan. 21st, 2011 11:58 amLike the label on the tin says:
1) So, the international community's "passive" response to pirates now includes South Korean commandos storming a captured ship in a hail of gunfire. Eight Somalis were sent to Davy Jones' locker, and I suspect that the five survivors will have plenty of opportunity to learn Korean in prison.
ETA late afternoon: In another example of "passivity" Royal Malaysian Navy commandos save ship from pirates. Seven more Somalis will get the opportunity to learn a new language in prison.
2) From the always-interesting Charles Stross, I give you looking under the street lamp. It's a musing on the idea that, "To identify the most lethal risks you must identify the situations where nobody has survived to deliver a warning ..."
3) A two-fer from Tobias Buckell. First, does an electric car just shift the CO2 elsewhere? Second, reflecting on Dr. Martin Luther King's gun ownership (he had a concealed carry permit) community gun ownership and the race riot of Tulsa.
That's enough links for a Friday, I think.
