Vacation Pictures - Part 3 - Redwoods!
Oct. 17th, 2011 01:47 pmI have to say that I found Redwoods National Park the most impressive of the three I visited. The Pacific coast is beautiful, and it's just damned hard to convey how big a giant redwood tree is. But herewith is my attempt to do so.

Me and a tree. The tree's the taller one...

Note the tree in comparison to the camper.

Here's one of the "drive-thru" trees in the park. I was a bit chicken to try and get the car through. It would be tight (especially the mirrors) but if I was brave, do-able. I saw all sorts of redwoods that had been hollowed out at the base via natural processes, so apparently cutting these holes doesn't do that much to hurt the tree.
So, the helpful Park Service ranger suggested I take a drive down a gravel road. Here's the wide part of the road:

And here's one of many, many narrow parts of the road:

Lastly, not a part of the park, but a lighthouse in Crescent City, CA. First, the sign:

And like the sign says, "hours dependent on the tide."
