1) The Canadian government approved a plan to spend $35 billion building a variety of new ships. This is, even adjusted for inflation, more than they spent in WWII, and includes 15 destroyer / frigate hulls, plus icebreakers and Arctic patrol ships, now that the north coast of Canada is more accessible.
2) Over on my review blog POD People, a list of upcoming book reviews.
3) In part just for my own future reference, the NRA's gun safety rules.
4) In space news, SpaceX announces a November 30 launch of their new capsule which will go all the way to the International Space Station. This puts them significantly ahead of their development schedule.
5) The US Army is redoing their Combat Air Brigades.
6) An interesting, if a bit long, article on Dick's Law, or how (not) to buy gems at the source.
7) Barnacles on the hulls of ships are a real problem. So, the US Navy is deploying an underwater 'Roomba' to clean things up.
