PIPA and SOPA
Jan. 18th, 2012 08:49 amSo, our Congress is debating and planning to vote on two acts, PIPA and SOPA, which, if passed, will essentially shut down the Internet. All sorts of sites, from Google to Wikipedia, are shut down today in protest, and many of the sites (including the link above) are urging people to sign online petitions.
Online petitions are a waste of time. Even an Internet-ignorant Congressman knows that the same person can click on them multiple times. If you want to make your opinion known, call your Congressman and Senators.
As a public service, here are the numbers for the Illinois Senators:
Dick Durbin (202) 224-2152
Mark Kirk 202-224-2854
You can also call the United States Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and ask for the Senator or Congressman who represents you.
