President's Day Thoughts
Feb. 20th, 2012 04:57 pmPresidents' Day is a bank holiday, so no work. I did get some writing done, and laundry, so a reasonably productive day. Yesterday I attended a fundraiser for Jeff Tade, a guy who works at my town home association. He's got leukemia, the treatment of which is being covered by insurance, but various side bills are not. I'm told the event raised between $9,000 and $10,000, so that should be a helpful number.
I also exercised today. I belong to Glass Court Swim and Fitness Club. The place isn't fancy - think "1970s public high school" - but the price is right, the location is handy and they have the workout stuff that I need.
What I really like is that Glass Court bills itself as a "family friendly" place. In practice, this means that I'm not competing for space with a collection of muscle-heads, but rather working out with regular people. So far, the members have proven to be friendly and encouraging, which considering my sad lack of shape is nice.
Tomorrow, if all goes according to plan, I get my "Big Idea" post over on John Scalzi's site. As soon as I notice it's up, I'll link to it from the usual places.
