Fixin' to Become a Pain In The Ass
Apr. 5th, 2012 10:42 amSo, back in November, I told the story of being contacted and asked to renew [Major National Magazine]. At the time, I pointed out that the "renewal invoice" I received had all the professionalism of a 3rd-grader's school project. I decided it was a scam, and ignored the "renewal." In fact, I've since renewed [Major National Magazine] via the usual way, a renewal invoice from the actual magazine.
Well, last night I get a call from an audibly ticked-off person asking me why I haven't paid for their renewal. I tell him the above, and request that he cancel my order. He rather impatiently and harshly tells me that he can't cancel the order, I owe the money, and I either pay or he sends me to collection. I end up telling him to do what he has to do.
Now, I know (but didn't have the presence of mind at the time to say) that they never actually placed an order. If they had, I've have either gotten two copies of the magazine or not gotten a renewal invoice, so I know they're not out any money. But if they bothered to call me now, I'm sure I'll get some kind of "collection notice" in the future.
Moral of the story - never, ever say yes to any offer over the phone!
