Observation
So, last night right about sunset I'm walking by the sliding glass doors overlooking my back yard when something outside catches my eye. Upon closer examination I see Mama Skunk and three Baby Skunks walking across the yard like they own the place, heading to a burrow under my back stoop. Not only do I not get rent from my tenants, I need to pay (again!) for eviction!
Random Thought #1
I'm working on the plot outline for the next novel, working title Gunmaker. Since it's set in a different place (a Stanford Torus built inside an asteroid) I'm having to do a lot of research. This link to the original study is helpful, but there's a lot of additional stuff I need to figure out. Like, making gunpowder.
My gunmaker's gun is a semi-auto pistol, based on a pocket-sized Ruger Mark II, so the shooter needs smokeless gunpowder. Well, if you put "making gun cotton" into you Google, you'll eventually find several YouTube videos telling you how to do that. But, I had to find the right search terms, watch the videos, and take notes.
Random Thought #2
There really is a value to having a liberal arts education, even if you end up in a technical field. For example, this doctor sings the praises of a liberal arts degree for doctors. I will say that any liberal arts major should take as many math and science classes as they can, although once upon a time the very definition of "liberal arts" included a foundation of math and science.
