Rotary, Petraeus and Free Will
Nov. 13th, 2012 09:56 amSince today is Rotary and I'm the acting president, here's a few link-like thoughts:
1) Love in the house of spy - the pithiest summary of the whole Petraeus affair / nothing-burger.
2) For the low-low price of $99.95, James Fallows shares his sure-fire secret recipe for avoiding problems like General Petraeus has.
3) Unrelated to the above points, a brief rant about free will, cigarette taxes and using the hospital emergency room. The tl;dr version? "So, to review: if the government prices you out of the market for something frivolous, breaking the law is rational and your actions are the government's fault. When the market prices you out of a basic necessity of life, you get a lecture on personal responsibility and why you are What's Wrong with America. I guess free will and morality are off the table when the potential to rant about taxes enters the picture.
