New Year's Resolutions, 2013 edition
Dec. 31st, 2012 01:22 pmHaving finally executed on a New Year's resolution, namely getting in (better) shape, and experiencing the joys of becoming a Real Live Published Author (tm), I've decided to make a new resolution.
Deciding on New Year's resolutions requires identifying a problem, or at least something you want to change. My problem is that I am a lazy writer. I've gotten into the bad habit of writing when the mood strikes me, which means I can go weeks without writing much of anything. This means that several novels are either stuck in my head or in partially-completed draft on my hard drive. That's no way to run a railroad, and now that I'm exercising (more on that anon) I have energy in the evenings.
Therefore, I hereby resolve to write at least one (1) hour per night, Monday through Thursday, and at least one (1) hour in the period Friday through Sunday. That's five hours a week, and that's
jimhines erritory. If he can do that and crank out a book a year, damn it, so should I. Should I be unable to complete my evening hour, due to guests or evening commitments, I will make up the time in the week I lost it. Time spent "researching" does not count towards the hour, but time spent updating outlines, etc. does.
Although I am exercising, and have noted some positive results thereof, I could do more than I am. Therefore, I hereby resolve to engage in some physical exercise every day. This will probably consist of a modest amount of calisthenics in the morning before my shower, but it will be something in addition to gym three days a week.
I wish all a happy, safe and prosperous New Year.
