A Bad Day At Work and Other Thoughts
Feb. 14th, 2013 10:55 amFirst, other thoughts:
Thought #1 - There's news today that the Pentagon is creating a new medal to be "awarded to pilots of unmanned aircraft, offensive cyber war experts or others who are directly involved in combat operations." What's controversial about this award is that the award, given to people not in theater, will outrank the Bronze Star! I'm all for awarding people for good work, but driving a drone in a cubicle farm in Vegas is not Bronze Star territory.
Thought #2 - Comes news today about the sinking of the HMS Bounty during hurricane Sandy. This ship, built as a prop for the 1960s movie Mutiny on the Bounty, was never intended for a long life. At any rate, Outside Magazine has an interesting but long article on the details of the ship. Also, one of the folks at League of Ordinary Gentlemen, a licensed mariner, has some thoughts from the ongoing Coast Guard investigation. Well worth reading, and the bottom line is that every organization needs a "Doctor No."
I had a bad day at work yesterday, but this graphic puts that in perspective:
