Question And Observation

What exactly takes people so long at a gas station? At the gas station I use, I frequently see two or three cars parked not at the pump but where one would go into the (tiny and ill-stocked) store. Yesterday, while getting gas, I saw the same cars there while I waited for two stoplights to turn in, get gas and they were still there when I left. What exactly does one do at a gas station for more than 5 minutes?
Observation
I bought a pair of work pants that were marked "waist 40 relaxed fit." I have discovered that "relaxed fit" means "at least 1/5 inches more than the marked size." In my case, that means "almost too big."
