As my SF-aware readers have heard, Jay Lake died today.  This comes after a long struggle with colon cancer, and is alas not unexpected.

I only met Jay once, at Confusion in Detroit a few years ago.  Neither of us were at our best - Jay was coming off another bout with the cancer that killed him and I was limping, having somehow injured my leg.  Regardless, he was a very nice fellow, and spent significant time with somebody (me) that he'd never met before.

I mentioned at the con that I was looking forward to more from his Sunspin universe of SF fiction.  He graciously offered to email me the manuscripts he had finished, which were the first two books and the outlines for number s 3 and 4.  He didn't know me from Adam, but he offered and followed through.

A hell of a guy, and the world is less for his passing.
