Link Salad, Hugo Edition
Jan. 21st, 2015 09:26 amI did not watch the State of the Union address last night. I am frankly a bit burnt out by politics at the moment. I hear Obama pissed off some Republicans by reminding them that he won two elections, to which I suggest that if facts piss you off, change the facts. On to the links:
A) This American lived on one of Paris's 'no go zones' and survived. Perhaps unsurprisingly, it's actually safer than some neighborhoods in the South Side of Chicago.
B) Speaking of "no go zones," here's how that particular piece of right-wing BS got started.
C) I enjoyed the movie American Sniper and I think highly of Chris Kyle's service. A reminder, though: not everything he said was truthful.
D) Jim Wright is wise and brief on military service.
E) For my own convenience and your consideration, various links to Hugo-eligible short fiction. Ken Liu's list, Liz Bourke's list, a short story by S. L. Huang and a novelette by Alette De Bodard.
