Writing And Money
Jan. 27th, 2015 10:10 amEd, the anonymous writer at Gin and Tacos, is upset that a lot of writers are supported financially by somebody else. He refers to this Salon article sponsored by my husband written by the literary writer Ann Bauer.
Now, my immediate reply to Taco Ed was: I offer up as counter-examples to the trust-fund literary types John Scalzi, Jim C. Hines and Tobias Buckell. All three did not come from money, all make good money writing, all had regular jobs when they started and Hines still has a Daye Jobbe.
But the difference is they all write AT LEAST one book a year. This literary "write when the muse strikes and Mars is in Venus" crap is for dilettantes. Which it is.
I also note that the world does not owe one a living. It especially does not owe one a living doing that which we would like to do.
