Here in Chicago we've had the warmest October ever and so far a mild November. That ends tonight, as we are expecting snow after midnight and most of the day Saturday. Fortunately, I have nowhere particular to go, two fireplaces, and a novel to outline. (And if I get bored, a key lime pie to make for T-day, although I'll probably hold off a bit on that.)

In other news, we filled my open position at work, and the new person starts Pearl Harbor day. (Tora! Tora! Tora!) Signing off until Monday or if something new happens.

I know I said I was signing off for the weekend, but then John Scalzi had to go and write a post. Frightened, Ignorant and Cowardly is No Way to Go Through Life, Son. He is, as am I, appalled by the gutless wonders in Congress and various statehouses who want to block Syrian refugees.

As John quoted from those radical Commie Liberals at the CATO Institute: Of the 859,629 refugees admitted from 2001 onwards, only three have been convicted of planning terrorist attacks on targets outside of the United States, and none was successfully carried out. That is one terrorism-planning conviction for every 286,543 refugees that have been admitted. To put that in perspective, about 1 in every 22,541 Americans committed murder in 2014. The terrorist threat from Syrian refugees in the United States is hyperbolically over-exaggerated and we have very little to fear from them because the refugee vetting system is so thorough.

John's conclusion? "So congratulations, America. We’ve successfully wrested the title of “cheese-eating surrender monkeys” from France. Enjoy it."
