Keep Calm and Carry On
Dec. 7th, 2015 09:57 amI watched the President's televised speech last night. If I had to give it a title, it would be "Keep Calm and Carry On." This seems to me to be sound advice.
Although I am saddened by the 14 deaths in San Bernardino, there's not much to differentiate this native-born shooter from the other random nuts with guns we seem willing to live with. We destabilized the Middle East by encouraging the removal of various evil dictators, and the only way to re-stabilize the place is to help the locals decide for themselves who they want to run the country and where the borders should be. (The current borders were drawn by the British and French at the end of WWI, and have little relevance to conditions on the ground.)
Unfortunately, there are a substantial group of Americans who seem to want a quick fix to what is a chronic problem. Would that there were one.
ETA: A reminder that last year's A Moment of Panic was ebola. Much like this year's Moment of Panic, the real solution is, quoting the article, "boring as hell."
