Ozark DogsOzark Dogs by Eli Cranor

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I buy a lot of books. One of the problems with that is that I sometimes don't remember who recommended a book to me. Well, whomever recommended Ozark Dogs to me - thank you.

The book is set in the portion of the Ozark mountains which are in Arkansas, and takes place in the present day. Jeremiah Fitzjurls owns a junkyard in rural Arkansas. A Vietnam war vet (a sniper, which will be relevant later) he is raising his granddaughter Joanna alone. His son and her father is in prison, doing life for murder one, and her mother has run off to parts unknown. Despite this unpromising situation, young Joanna (Jo to everybody) seems to be prospering. This being a crime novel, that prosperity is not going to last.

A figure from Jeremiah and Jo's past has plans for revenge and quick money, and is willing to use people, including Jo, to get that. In a gripping and thrilling 24-hour period, a number of plans collide and secrets are revealed. This is a rip-roaring book!
