My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This book has been sitting on my to-be-read pile for a long time. It's size was rather daunting but I finally overcame that and took the plunge. I'm glad I did.
The book opens with Constable Ellie Cheetham finding the body of a man who froze to death on a lonely country road. He's a member of a family of local troublemakers and she frankly isn't very sad that he's dead, but something isn't quite right. Figuring out what that's not right leads to a very gripping story of horror and action, set in a remote and isolated English village.
The novel is very English - modern English - and I occasionally found the slang and dialects hard to parse. It's also a bit long (I did say that, didn't I?). But it's definitely worth the read.
