Random Travel Thoughts
Aug. 15th, 2024 11:14 amI am back in Darien. It's rainy and upper 60s, which is a heat wave for Iceland and normal Thursday weather for Scotland. I've got the windows open, my second cup of coffee in hand, and the first load of laundry from the Trip That Was is in the wash. I intend to have a more detailed post on driving in Iceland and a separate post on general Icelandic tourist stuff. Here I'll put some random thoughts that don't fit elsewhere.
1) Regarding Glasgow: I did spend a full day being a tourist there, and can highly recommend the hop-on / hop-off tour bus. I just didn't find anything especially photogenic to take pictures of.
2) I spent a fair bit of time on Saturday in Glasgow at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. I found it very eclectic - it's a mix of history, natural history and art.
3) Flying Icelandair means changing planes at Keflavik Airport. I found Icelandair's boarding process strange. They call you in order to scan your boarding pass, then usher you into a tiny holding room with no seats. After that room is full, then then let you proceed to either the plane via jetway or bus (about half the planes board on the tarmac). Either way, any priority or pre-boarding is completely lost in this shuffle.
