I wish I knew the name of the Catholic bishop who simply refused to make the minor effort to peer through Galileo's telescope at the Moon, because the Moon was a celestial orb and thus perfect and without blemish, and there was simply no point to bothering because Galileo was wrong because he could not be right and so obviously he was wrong. You see? Very simple.
