Comes news today that Turkey shot down a Russian jet allegedly over Turkish airspace. Several thoughts:

1) Generally not helpful in trying to patch together a response to ISIS and the mess in Syria.

2) Turkey and Russia have been shooting at each other since the invention of gunpowder. I doubt this will get past the harsh words stage.

3) Turkey takes air defense very seriously. When I was in the US Navy, Turkey shot down a Greek (NATO-ally Greek) plane for violating Turkish airspace. When Turkish ground control says "turn around" you'd best turn around.

All the history the Turkey was an enemy for the Russia. And now when we are fighting IGIL they are against us. It is obvious that the Turkey stays behind many groups of terrorists which are fighting against the Syrian army. Our journalists were showing not once how the terrorists had fled from Syria to Turkey without any trouble from the Turkish border's forces. Our president have many proofs that many Russian citizens have came from the Turkey to Syria to fight against the Syria and after to fight against Russia. They are telling this on Internet without any fear. So, it is obvious that the Turkey is letting them to collect together, to get the war experience and after will let them to get back to Russia and Europe and when the Russia is doing the real things to stop all these, the Turkey start the hostilities against Russian army...
I don't want that my country was draged in a new war but the Turkey will certainly pay for this act of aggression, if not by our army then by the lack of Russian tourists...

I have a feeling if I had a Turkish commentor he'd be telling me about all the bad things Russia did to Turkey. I certainly know that Russia is currently backing Assad in Syria, who is very much a troublemaker in the region.

The only way these long-standing feuds end is if people on both sides say "enough!" and stop fighting.

So, you are thinking that what the Turkey did and is doing to the friend Asad is can be compared to the things which the Syrian army is doing? Are you kidding? The Syria have been destroying by the intervention of terrorists from the Turkey and from the Iraq. USA is giving the weapon to the terrorists which are fighting at the Syria right now and backing all the troubles. And what is the Turkey so angrier about that we, Russians are fighting the ISIS which is selling the cheap oil to the family of the president of Turkey? And what about the all other people which are living in the Turkey? They don't need no ISIS, no wars but jobs and everyday money. But as it had happened at the Ukraine, where the corruption authority paid by USA, are doing all to make the everyday living of the Ukrainians worse. And now all this nightmare is starting at the Turkey. I don't think that Erdoğan will rule this country for long...

Assad may have been a friend to Russia, but he's been an enemy to Israel, the US, Turkey and a general problem to the region. He's also oppressed his people.

The area where the Russian jet got shot down in is not near any ISIS-held territory.

You are wrong. He was a big friend of Erdoğan not so long ago it is first. Secondly, our plane was shoot under the Syrian territory which is flooded by the terrorists and it is obvious if to watch the video where the terrorists are shouting under our dead pilot terrorists slogans. Thirdly, the main problem of the region is the USA stupid policy and nothing will match to this rich stupidity...
